Seahorse Class - Miss Dow

Seaturtle Class - Miss Gower

Welcome to Year 1!

Our day to visit the library will be a Tuesday so please return your library books on Mondays.

Reading books will be changed on Tuesdays and Fridays, children are encouraged to be independent when choosing their reading books and this sometimes means they choose a favourite book several times in a row.  Please share a wide range of books and texts with your child regularly at home.  Don't forget to colour in a book on their reading challenge to ensure they can bring in a 'snuggle buddy' from home and have a special story session with Mrs Wigley at the end of each half term.

Please try to ensure that book bags are in school every day as you never know when there might be something to carry home!

PE will be on a Thursday so please come dressed in PE kit and please remember to tie up hair and remove earrings.

If you need to email us the address is year1@leeslandschools-fed.co.uk

Homework

The homework selector below gives your child the opportunity to choose their homework tasks to complete with your support at home.

Each term your child is expected to complete 3 pieces of homework from the grid, which gives a choice of 3 different task for each 2 week period.

We look forward to sharing the children's amazing work in class!

Relationships & Sex Education

Year 1 will be taught a unit of work called ‘Respectful Relationships’ as part of our Personal Development Learning (PDL) curriculum. We will also be discussing the NSPCC’s Underwear Rule in these lessons.

During these discussions we will aim to teach pupils about the following:

• Privates are private.

• Where your pants touch is private.

• Always remember your body belongs to you.

• No means no.

• Talk about secrets that upset you.

• Speak up, someone can help.

PANTS stands for:

• Privates are private

• Always remember your body belongs to you

• No means no

• Talk about secrets that upset you

• Speak up, someone can help.

The lessons will introduce a range of ideas and discussions, all delivered by your child’s teacher in a way that’s fully age appropriate. These have been added to the site for parents and carers to see in advance of lessons. Please do not share them with your children at this time as we will be doing this is school.

Year 1 follow the Christopher Winters programme for teaching RSE.

Below is the scheme of work with all the resources used to teach each lesson.

The NSPCC have also provided resources to help teach our children PANTS rule. Watch the link below for more information.

Meet Pantosaurus - our pant-wearing Dino! He wants every child to stay safe and strong, just like him, and he's on a mission to share an important message. We're currently trying to create a brand new PANTS storybook so we can reach more children.
