Request for Amendment to Admissions Policies 2021-2022
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions and guidelines, Churches have been closed for regular worship. This has created an issue for the over-subscription criteria within our admissions policies for 2021-2022. Both Leesland schools have applied, via Portsmouth Diocese, to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator (OSA) in respect of our admissions policies for 2021-22.
We have requested a footnote be added in each policy for the definition for 'active member of the Church of England' as stated in point 9 of the over-subscription criteria.
Our policies currently define this as "attending worship at a Church of England church at least twice a month for the previous two years before the date of application."
We are requisition the addition of a footnote to this definition:
"Amendment in light of Covid-19 temporary restrictions on access to places of worship: In the event that during the period specified for attendance at worship the church has been closed for public worship and has not provided alternative premises for that worship, the requirements of these [admissions] arrangements in relation to attendance will only apply to the period when the church or alternative premises have been available for public worship."
If you have any comments regarding this request to the OSA, please contact the school.
