What is Leesland community hub?

Our community hub first started as an adult and baby/ toddler group to provide a fun, relaxed, social and learning environment for our families at Leesland and also for those in the local community. We are very proud of how our hubs continue to offer a fun playing environment for under 5s but now also offer a place for all families to access valuable support and information. You do not need to have a toddler to attend!

At every hub, we will have at least 2 invited guest agencies who offer support and advice to any member of the Leesland community. We regularly have the school nurse and mental health support team attend. This is very successful because families can access immediate advice but also be referred on for further support if deemed necessary. We work closely with St Faiths Hub who run a monthly food and clothing hub supporting any local families in need. They also offer excellent family friendly events. The Discovery Centre regularly visits Leesland at the community hub to help share their love of reading and books and when they attend, they lead the singing and story group activity at the end. Switched on and Citizens Advice are sometimes available during sessions to offer financial and energy advice for families. They can also signpost to other available areas of support.

We run term time only.  If you are a Leesland family, the dates are advertised on the Friday flyer and our Facebook page.  If you are a family in the community then please check our website for dates or phone either office.  We do not charge, the sessions are free.

If you are just coming for the baby and toddler play, we try to make each session different from the last. We always have messy play such as play dough or decorating biscuits. There is soft play, a baby area, building blocks and books to read. When the weather is fine, the children can use our outside agility trail, supervised by parents.

We provide snacks like fruit, bread sticks and dry cereal to eat, water for the children to drink and tea and coffee for the adults who bring them.  You are also welcome to bring your own snack to eat at our snack table.  We are a nut free school so no nuts please.

Towards the end of each session we ask all the adults and children to help tidy the toys away and then for the last ten minutes we sing some songs and maybe have a story.  Learning rhyme and songs is one of the great ways to give children some skills to help learn to read. We often have a member of the Leesland Gateway preschool lead our closing songs.

Come along and we will make you welcome.
